El Chapo’s wife arrested at Dulles International Airport, because who did not see this coming? Spoiler a lot of us

The wife of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera, leader of a Mexican drug trafficking organization known as the Sinaloa Cartel, was arrested today at Dulles on charges related to her alleged involvement..

Papí…mi amor, mi mundo- por favor ayúdame el FBI me arrestó y creo que estoy súper jodido. Por favor papá, mi amor por favor

The Department of Justice Press Release:

Emma Coronel Aispuro, 31, a dual U.S.-Mexican citizen, of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, was arrested on Monday February 23, 2021 at Dulles International Airport. CORONE Aispuro will make her initial appearance in federal district count in Washington DC, later today.

Hey Remember way back in like Fall 2019 some of us were like; what’s the over under on El Chappo’s wife getting rolled up vis-a-vis KingPin. And how overtly arrogant she was throughout her husband’s trial…oh yes those were super fun times…Or how some thought I was completely over my skis concerning Cienfuegos Zepeda (don’t make me post that video) -it is so weird how given enough time things actually materialize and yet here we are.

EMMA CORONEL AISPURO

Aispuro was charged for her role and participating in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for importation into the United States… for distribution -,Charge(s); knowingly and intentionally distribute;

• one (1) kilogram or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of heroin,

• five (5) kilograms or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine

• one thousand (1000) kilograms or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of marijuana,

• five hundred (500) grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine,

And NO - I am not willing to be okay with how the Department of Justice let Zepeda go… or what’s happening in the Luna case. However this kind of additional detail that a “cooperating witness” is turning out to be a very valuable witness. What’s interesting is this isn’t in EDNY (you know where her husband was indicted & later found guilty) NOPE this is in the District of Columbia. Have you figure out what else is interesting?

Things that you never want to see in an affidavit - “I have also reviewed thousands of intercepted wire and electronic communications relating to the Sinaloa Cartel’s drug trafficking activities.” (Emphasis added)

If you followed me in Twitter then you might recall the various threads where I highlighted the interesting tidbits of the voluminous various court filings, both in Luna and Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda cases. In early 2019, the Government filed an evidence log and at the time I believe the number the Government proffered was greater than five thousand minutes of recorded and intercepted calls.

The purported (mainly self appointed) Twitter judicial “experts” -who until just recently you didn’t have a PACER account. And back to your regularly scheduled program…

Like I have repeatedly said; always and I mean always read the footnotes. When you do then you can find some delightful nuggets For example, this cooperating witness-fact-nugget;

However, things you never want to see in an affidavit -the disclosure of an additional cooperating witness # 2 (CW2) -that proffered to the Government that CW-2 had provided over 100 tons of cocaine.

And…drumroll…the interesting part of the Affidavit

The complaint alleges (paragraphs 22 thru 32) Coronel Aispuro played an integral roll in the brazen 2015 Guzman’s prison escape. conspiring with others. Guzman was re-apprehended in Mexico in January 2016. The Government also disclosed Coronel Aispuro engaged in planning, yet another brazen prison escape. This was especially problematic because it shows the tenacious both Guzman and his wife hatching a prison escape plan, prior to Guzman’s extradition to EDNY.

I genuinely hope that the Cooperating Witness is under tight security for their own protection because the CW-1 has become an incredibly valuable government witness. Not only did el Chappo’s know but she was effectively in charge while her husband was behind bars:

Wait - so the FBI reviewed additional handwritten letters that were written and signed by GUZMAN? There after the FBI actually authenticated letters via by multiple witnesses, including Cooperating Witness 1… The letter states, in pertinent part:

Regarding Cleto, increase the production so that it yields. Say hi to Cleto. Tell him to please give me a hand, so that the first sale will be my part… because I have a lot of expenses here.

Given Coronel Aispuro “prior acts” I would expect the Government to fight for Detention pending trial. I can not see any set of conditions that would rebut the extreme flight risk that she poses.

Cooperating Witness 1, he/she received communications from CORONEL on behalf of GUZMAN while GUZMAN was detained in Altiplano prison in 2014 and 2015… Cooperating Witness 1 told me CORONEL agreed to help facilitate GUZMAN to escape from Altiplano via an underground tunnel.

The Government has it all- all the evidence to not only indict El Chappo’s wife but likely to convict her. Because her participation in El Chappo’s escape wasn’t a small bit - nope she was central to the whole plan to bust her “el Papi mi amor”

Affidavit found here - highlighted/annotated found here - I can’t see how she’s going to “NOT” be detained pending trial. I would imagine the Government will argue she is an extreme flight risk. And your multimedia presentation…
