HSCJ6 Committee officially sent subpoena to US Secret Service. Due July 19, 2022

Always read the entire press release: “ Inspector General Cuffari briefed the Select Committee on this and other matters.” Hence the catalyst for tonight’s subpoena. Read page 2, the 2nd paragraph

Technically this isn’t two newsletters in one day…

As a general rule I really try to refrain from publishing more than one newsletter a day. Because I’m mindful that some of my readers may not appreciate more than one email from me a day. However since it’s actually July 16th -I didn’t publish two newsletters (snort)

HSCJ6 sends US Secret Service a subpoena;

Nothing like a late Friday Night news dump —because my phone & e-mail alerted a few moments ago —and ICYMI yesterday I explained how the “current US Secret Service” position isn’t just problematic, its flirting with actual subterfuge. The problem with the US Secret Service statement is, several Congressional Committees sent a preservation request to nearly all Federal Agencies, more specifically to DHS & it’s progeny agencies. Look at the very last sentence of the second paragraph… that statement doesn’t make sense. Meaning why was the data erased from “some phones” and not others? And the last time I checked January 17, 2021 comes before February or August of 2021, respectively.

First, in January 2021, before any inspection was opened by OIG on this subject, the Secret Service began to reset its mobile phones to factory settings as part of a pre-planned, three-month system migration. In that process, data resident on some phones was lost.

The Select Committee has issued a subpoena for records from the United States Secret Service. In a letter to Secret Service Director James Murray, Chair @BennieGThompson sought information about Secret Service text messages from January 5 and 6, 2021 that were reportedly erased.

April 7, 2022 -Dir Murray announced his retirement:

• April 8, 2019 Trump removed the long time USS Director Randolph “Tex” Alles, from his post. This purge also included countless other DHS staffers & other senior leadership. You can read more via The Washington Post Article

• May 1, 2019 James M. Murray was sworn in as the Director of the US Secret Service (see archived USSS website)

• July 7, 2022 Director Murray announced his retirement —which would occur at the end of July 2022

Again I’m not explicitly stating the Secret Service is purposefully obfuscating. I merely explained how their current position is really hard to believe and it strains credulity. Additionally there’s a buried lede in the July 15, 2022 HSCJ6 Press Release, it’s literally the very last sentence which reads in part:

Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph V. Cuffari offered a briefing to the House Committee on Homeland Security and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs about “ongoing access issues” with the Department of Homeland Security, specifically that “many U.S. Secret Service (USSS) text messages, from January 5 and 6, 2021, were erased as part of a device-replacement program.” Today, Inspector General Cuffari briefed the Select Committee on this and other matters.

Keep in mind that the House (had at least three other committees investigating prior to the formation of the HSCJ6 Committee) —accordingly the House has made three previous requests for text messages, internal communiques and after action reports. And it appears that the US Secret Service continues to stonewall and frustrate lawful Congressional request & subpoenas. As you’ll note, the HSCJ6 two page letter provides a July 19, 2022 deadline.

…The Select Committee has been informed that the USSS erased text messages from January 5 and 6, 2021 as part of a ‘device-replacement program.’ In a statement issued July 14, 2022, the USSS stated that it ‘began to reset its mobile phones to factory settings as part of a pre-planned, three-month system migration. In that process, data resident on some phones was lost.’ However, according to that USSS statement, ‘none of the texts it [DHS Office of Inspector General] was seeking had been lost in the migration….

…the Select Committee seeks the relevant text messages, as well as any after action reports that have been issued in any and all divisions of the USSS pertaining or relating in any way to the events of January 6, 2021.”

The US Secret Service has always been plagued with scandals…

And I’m going to remind you of a few background fact-nuggets. This is by means no where inclusive. Under Director Murray’s leadership, here’s a partial list of scandals

• April of 2022: Arian Taherzadeh and Haider Ali charged in an insane bribery, guns, and gifting expensive guns to several secret service agents. You can read more here -also see Secret Service April 2022 Statement

• May of 2022, two Secret Service agents were sent home due to an alleged alcohol related incident, read more here

• May 2021: Trump and his protective detail decided to give the cult members, I mean fully indoctrinated MAGA-Republicans a drive by after he was released from Walter Reed Hospital

• November of 2020: more than 130 Agents were infected with COVID-19 because the Trump Administration DGAF about masking up and other responsible medical protocols. REM

• June of 2020: Trump’s grotesque Church Photoshoot —where Federal (including the Secret Service) US Park Service,

• April of 2019: Yujing Zhang, was essentially waved in by Secret Service Agents, at Trump’s (tacky) Mar-A-Largo. When Zhang was taken into custody, she has a large cache of electronics, one of which was a malware-infected thumb drive. Read more here

  • “The Secret Service has determined that no agency personnel used tear gas or capsicum spray during its efforts to secure the area near Lafayette Park on Monday, June 1st, 2020.” See USSS official press release

And lastly, let’s not forget the January 2022 non-partisan Government Accounting Office (GAO) Report No: GAO-21-105100 —which explicitly noted;

…concluding that the Secret Service still has not fully implemented recommendations from the outside panel in 2014. The agency hasn’t met training and staffing goals and only three of eight sections of a new, taller White House fence were finished as of 2021
