Again, truly two different justice systems in this country, it is disgusting. I hope the descendants of those who were lynched, taken before their time, can find closure and peace.

Filey, I will send you a portable cylinder fire extinguisher and a bottle of Tito's vodka for you to go. Make sure you wear your 'protective ' gear in the meantime. And self care and salt water therapy for you. Be well back y'all on here, stay healthy and safe.

Years ago I was on a panel that was discussing the emergence of “confederate” statutes on various courthouse grounds. I’ll never forget the moment when I was asked “who cares it’s just people admiring our history” my response was: I care because those statues are like silent sentinels that tell African Americans that they are still bound by the chains of their forefathers” —the panel chair asked me to explain my assertion —so I uploaded my research and walked them through the dates of the statues instillation and that it was after the passage of the civil rights —it wasn’t about “heritage” it was about telling Black Americans that they would not receive equal Justice and that the legal community has a moral obligation to right the wrongs. Thereafter the ABA convened an ad hoc panel and my research was validated. It was a moment where my mentor explained just how proud he was of me. And I told him that he should be proud of himself for mentoring & guiding me. Man I miss him, almost every day.

We need more mentors like him and you. Perhaps those chains apply to all of us white folks as well. If a segment of our population is not truly free or treated equally, then, none of us truly are, are we ?😔🙏

Filey definitely is mentoring all of us. As you all are mentoring me in a way, the way you guys can process information and state it succinctly and simply. It helps me to learn. Thanks to all on here. Stay healthy and safe. Pray the war in Ukraine is over soon.

It is crazy it's taken this long to pass, and we still have a ton of social work left to do.

Yup - it’s still mind blowing it took until 2022 to make lynching a federal hate crime. But there’s some interesting language in the new law that sure reads as though “recent lynchings” the rope has been replaced with guns. At least that’s how I read the new statutory language. I could be wrong but I don’t think I am —largely because several attorneys I know agreed that’s what the language insinuates. Meaning the brutal murders of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery <—could classified as a modern day lynching. I hope that makes sense. It’s been a long day
