Former DA who botched the murder investigation of Ahmaud Arbery -INDICTED-
And if I were George Barnhill I’d suggest he sprints to the Georgia Attorney General’s office and hammers out a plea agreement to cooperate in the criminal case of Jackie Johnson. Racist trash boxes
On September 2, 2021 the Georgia Attorney General Announced Indictment of former Brunswick District Attorney Jackie Johnson, for
Violation of Oath of Public Officer and
Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer
Over the course of several months, Attorney General Carr’s Prosecution Division presented evidence to a Glynn County grand jury…
Count One of the September 2, 2021 Indictment, charges Jacquelyn Lee Johnson with O.C.G.A. § 16-10-1 Violation of Oath of Public Officer – which is a felony and carries a maximum penalty of 5 years
February 23 , 2020, said accused violated the above provision of her oath of District Attorney by showing favor and affection to Greg McMichael during the investigation into the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery, thereby failing to discharge her duties as district attorney, to wit: said accused violated Article I, Section I, Paragraph XXX of the Georgia Constitution, a duty required by law, by failing to treat Ahmaud Arbery and his family fairly and with dignity when, after the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, said accused sought the assistance of Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney George E. Barnhill and, after disqualifying her office, recommended DA Barnhill to the Attorney General 's Office for appointment as the case prosecutor without disclosing that said accused had previously sought the assistance of DA Barnhill on the case.
Count Two of the Indictment charges Jacquelyn Lee Johnson with; O.C.G.A. § 15-18-2 Obstruction and Hindering a Law Enforcement Officer – which is a misdemeanor and carries a maximum penalty of 1 year
in the County aforesaid, on or about February 23 , 2020, did knowingly and willfully hinder Stephanie Oliver and Stephan Lowrey, law enforcement officers with Glynn County Police Department, in the lawful discharge of their official duties by directing that Travis McMichael should not be placed under arrest, contrary to the laws of said State, the good order, peace, and dignity thereof.
.
In May of 2020 a local TV news investigation reviewed the personnel files of Travis McMichael and their investigation uncovered that (former) District Attorney Jackie Johnson had repeatedly intervened on behalf of her long time employee Travis McMichael
But Ms Johnson’s real undoing was this May 11, 2020 Butch and Bob extensive interview - when the host asked Ms Johnson about the reporting that she had personally instructed Law Enforcement not arrest McMichael…her response was indignation and righteousness…
Minute Marker 4:51 thru 6:40
“I was watching TV and saw my face flash on the screen and I was horrified…that’s so far from the truth…it’s just a straight up lie…twenty years in the Criminal Justice system and I’m devastated by this…and then you have two people say this and then it just catches National Media as if it’s the truth…over the last couple of years we’ve had some..umm…umm… corruption in the Glynn County Police Department …and my office has been at the forefront of having to deal with those…so the people putting those lies out there have an incentive and that’s not being reported…”
Minute Marker 6:41 thru 8:23
Host asked why these two Police Officers would lie about her handling of the case and her intervention… she responded:
”…well…I think it’s retaliation…because you know I was the whistleblower and I’ve met with numerous county administrators asking them to help my office and it was to no avail… I can’t turn a blind eye…the District Attorney has an obligation to enforce the law…a lot of people putting this information out there, it’s a consequence, I believe of my office doing it’s duty…”
Minute Marker 10:01 thru 13:40
Host asked so no one in your office advised then not to make an arrest, right? That’s just a total lie… and then asked follow up questions about Defendant Johnson’s conflict of interest, reaching out to a neighboring jurisdiction and the appointment of Barnhill 1 <—who also had an obvious conflict of interest
”No… no… that’s just not true… I’ve got two attorneys …I trust them..it would not be have been their duty or obligation…or their job…one way or the other to tell them [Glynn County Police Department] to make an arrest…I’m the one who contacted another neighboring District Attorney’s office…in retrospect trying to do a good deed …it’s now being used against me…”
And yes every defendant is afforded the presumption of innocence but I genuinely don’t see George Barnhill coming out of this unscathed because the May 2020 letter from the Georgia Attorney General’s Office to GBI - well the subtext is both Defendant Johnson and George Barnhill not only obstructed a lawful investigation into the heinous murder of Ahmaud Arbery but may have engaged in significant prosecutorial misconduct…
Mr. Barnhill, however, held onto the case for several more weeks after making this discovery…
…Unknown and undisclosed to the Attorney General…
“…he and Ms. Johnson learned that Mr. Barnhill’s son, an assistant district attorney in Ms. Johnson’s office, had worked with Mr. McMichael on a prosecution involving Mr. Arbery. Mr. Barnhill, however, held onto the case for several more weeks after making this discovery. On April 7, 2020, the Attorney General received correspondence from Mr. Barnhill advising of a conflict and requesting the appointment of another prosecutor. Mr. Barnhill cited his son’s involvement with Mr. McMichael and Mr. Arbery as a reason for his request.
because based on the September 2, 2021 Indictment of (disgraced) former District Attorney Jackie Johnson and the publicly known details of George Barnhill there are only two reasonable expectations:
the indictment of George Barnhill, or
George Barnhill becomes a cooperating witness in the criminal proceedings of Former DA Johnson.
Nothing will bring Mr Arbery back, he was murdered because he was black and for months the Good Ol’ Boy Network tried to protect the three racist who shot Mr Arbery in cold blood while hurling racial epithets as Mr. Arbery laid on the ground dying. I hope at the minimum the Georgia Judicial System gives the Arbery family the justice they are owed…
Pertinent to Defendant Johnson and Barnhill - in May of 2020 the Georgia Attorney General’s office sent a letter/request to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation -it’s this paragraph that’s relevant to both Johnson and Barnill - in short I think a safe assumption is Barnhill will also be indicted or he might be a cooperating witness
Mr. Barnhill’s letter failed to disclose his involvement in this case prior to his appointment. In her conflict letter of February 27, 2020, Ms. Johnson had advised that the Glynn County Police Department was “currently investigating” the shooting death of Mr. Arbery, and that she was requesting new counsel to advise the police. Unknown and undisclosed to the Attorney General, however, Mr. Barnhill had already provided an opinion to the Glynn County Police Department on February 24, 2020, that he did not see grounds for the arrest of any of the individuals involved in Mr. Arbery’s death
Thank you Jesus.... <3
Such a relief to hear this… I think President Biden will go through the fires of hell to keep his campaign promises. Addressing the rise of systemic racism was one of them. God bless and keep him well. TY for this piece.
