After I write this I promise to go gargle with bleach, BUT....

This is one ultra minor hat tip to Barr for saying no to the deal that would have sent Chauvin to federal jail without a trial for minimum time. The sticking point according to NYT was Chauvin wanted assurance that he wouldn't get hit with a federal civil lawsuit. Great gamble there....lol.

I'm glad to see the grand jury indictment AND his state case ruling.

LOLs - I understand but I also take the NYT with a grain of salt because it’s Barr’s favorite publication to leak - especially self serving leaks

Most excellent point. I'm still glad it didn't pan out.

The other haha in the article though was about Barr being worried about public perception of his handling of the case. I do think that hews closer to the truth - that he was more concerned, at least in this instance, about public perception than sentencing the perp for wrongdoing.

Dammit Filey!! I wish you would take some time off. I don't know WHY, but I was just watching 20/20 which was about the abduction and murder of Riley Fox. I was on the verge of tears during the entire episode and your post has literally put me over the edge, and plunged my heart into the depths of grief. Thank God. THANK YOU GOD for helping us reach this point. I pray for Merrick Garland's continued good health and much success in his new position. We need these wins, now more than ever...

I think in part it’s an emotional release. For nearly four years it was like living a daily nightmare vis a vis groundhog’s day. The Trump-Barr DOJ priorities were so out of whack. The reputation of the DOJ may have reached an all time low. A few of my neighbors work at main. The things they’ve told me made my blood boil. In late 2019 Barr’s mask had fully fallen off. Conservatively 600+ years of combined institutional knowledge walked out of the DOJ. Between forced retirements and resignations.

I genuinely did not think the DOJ would have survived a 2nd Trump Admin. In 4 years only 1 police civil rights case was prosecuted O-N-E

That said I’m relieved that AG Garland is at the helm. He’s a phenomenal public servant and unquestionably an exceptional human being. In his short time there -he’s saying and doing <—which is something I greatly admire.

The years of knowledge and experience that we lost can never be replaced.. And I honestly don't think the country as we knew it would have survived another term... Public service is usually such a thankless job. I hope he knows how much we appreciate his position and integrity today.

So, he can be sentenced to death. I don't like the bloodthirsty feeling welling up inside but he deserves it.

I’m kind of torn on that. If I had my way, everyday he would be subject to 9 minutes with a knee on his neck but then 17 minutes with a knee on his neck and chest. That second indictment was a very long time coming. What I can not figure out is why he was still on the police force after the Sept 2017 incident, which is why I linked to the DOJ announcement of the “pattern or practice” investigation. FTR I’m not opposed to the death penalty but part of me wants him to suffer
