This was a delightful read. Especially the matter-of-fact way in which the 2021 DOJ exorciated the 2019 DOJ’s OLC opinions.

I was curious why it’s called a SLIP opinion:

“A few days after the bench opinion is issued through Hermes, the Court makes available a "slip opinion", so called because originally these hot-off-the-press opinions appeared on "slips" which could be inserted in printed volumes until the new, bound version of the opinions appeared.”

Duh... lol

A slip opinion is an expedited opinion (think final draft form but could be subject to further edits) - the one funny analogy my mentor taught me some 17+ years ago

“I’m just going to ‘slip’ this opinion right here” <— god I miss him so damn much —he taught me so many things

Anybody remember Snidley Whiplash? That's me right now. Wearing an evil grin, alternately rubbing my hands together gleefully & twirling my fake mustache. I cannot WAIT to see what comes out about all this. As a rule, I avoid this kind of thing because of that b****, Karma. If she catches you enjoying someone else's troubles & she'll come & slap around for it. And I agree with Colleen. I don't need to see the returns themselves, so long as the appropriate committees see them. That said, we all know #TraitorTrump is dirty or he wouldn't have fought so hard to keep anybody from seeing his taxes. This is gonna be entertaining.

Filey, once again, many thanks for getting this out so fast!

My pleasure —while I’m not on Twitter —I do try to get the facts out there under the notion that time is of the essence —meaning trying to knock down disinformation and misinformation before it spreads like wildfire

I say it’s great that Trumps taxes will be released to the appropriate Committee. I don’t have to see his returns and certain information will surface appropriately. Tax returns are boring and complicated so I’ll wait for any fallout.

Agreed - plus the OLC was pretty clear in today’s opinion if Trump’s taxes are unlawfully released that’s a felony or misdemeanor

I hope to see Mnuchin indicted at some point.

Do you want my honest opinion?

I don’t see former Sec Mnuchin being indicted. Especially for “acts” while he was the Sec of UST. Partly because he would be immune both via WestFall Act and/or Sovereign immunity… now the caveat is (hypothetically speaking) Sec Mnuchin engaged in “insider trading” and the DOJ and/or SEC could prove that he engaged in insider trading to unjustly enrich himself or immediate family members —then yes I could see him being indicted. Unfortunately there’s nothing in the public domain to suggest Mnuchin engaged in that unlawful behavior. I hope that makes sense and I’m sorry if that’s not what you wanted to hear.

I appreciate your knowledgeable opinions. I really do.

Finally!!!!! As for seeing them, who cares. What I do care about is him facing actual consequences.
