It’s more than just a name —think about the non-white members of our Military. That everyday they show up on a base that was named after slave owners, generals of the confederacy & shitty human beings
Thanks for the update. All of this long overdue and part of what MAGA refers to was the woke military. The Confederates were traitors and lost the war. We should have salted the earth but thought healing the country was the way to go. Well, here we are with the Lost Cause bullshit.
I genuinely think most might have forgotten the threads where I spent serious research time hunting down;
-the various confederacy statues
-who funded them and
-the actual purpose of erecting them on (mainly) local governments properties
The fact is many of these statues were largely erected after the 1964 Civil Rights Act —especially on local courthouse grounds. <—that was a way to tell the non-white community that “you’ll never be considered equal under our laws” —I mean think about being a person of color and you pass a statue of “the master” that “owned” your 3x great grandparents. The decades old racist propaganda vis-a-vis a nonverbal message glorifying Confederate Generals was meant to send that kind of gross racist message. However I’m really glad I read all 3 reports. Because the thought and care put in to each of the potential replacement names, it kind of made me smile. That change, good change sometimes takes longer than it should. I’ll take tiny like baby steps towards progress any day
Thanks for the status update, Filey! I do remember when you were hunting down all the statues and am so happy that they are continuing to rename and take down confederate statues/names of buildings, etc...love all that you do and have a great trip to NO!!!
LOLs I was just checking the flight & hotel my employer booked —they have me on the 3rd floor but I politely requested to be moved to either floor 5 or 6. But I can’t complain because they picked a pretty swanky boutique hotel right in the middle of the French Quarter
Thank you for all the cabinet full of files. This is a great history lesson and a lesson in empathy.
Re naming is happening all across Canada, and it is about time worldwide to put certain names in their graves without a headstone.

Progress such as this is most welcome during a time when the white is right people are trying to dictate everything, including what I teach.

Thx! Wishing you a hurricane free NOLA visit :)
