How to excise the cancer? It will be multi pronged but a dangerously difficult prong is the constant open lying on Fox News. This is brainwashing in my opinion. Constant drum beat of lies and misinformation aimed at the “other”. Thoughtful ideas needed to counteract media’s ability flood us with disinformation. Seems suing is a good start.

I always try to wrap my head around this progression. I try to understand the R party, still having many in my midst and having grown up with that as my sphere. I first point to racism- on TV-Archie Bunker. Probably more. Luckily I was in a sport, missed that, but also got sick of hearing the screaming and name calling on that show as it played. Then to news media instilling the fear of outsiders (grew up in FL- Haitians, boats, immigrants, Hispanic), then very much to Fox news mostly, but probably other media that didn't come across my viewplane. Fox, while cleverly instilling this air of superiority, the intelligent crowd, and the smiling o.reilly pretending to be everyone's buddy- writing his history books etc., but then their progression to making fun of others and simply lying etc. I didn't watch much but heard it on plenty whether it would be relatives or dr offices, airports. Couple that with a declining focus on civics and history education in schools. One other comment- it wasn't just the South though. My public HS was probably 40% non white, so I was used to a variety of folks and comfortable with it. I recall when going to prominent college- was actually very surprised at how segregated it was. Very little mixing of folks. It drew from many NE locations so it wasn't just a southern issue. But the definition of R today seems to be racism, greed (retaining or growing your wealth and fear that D will take that from you), anger and resentment at the (whether real or perceived- I am not smart enough to find this data) of white male opportunity. That is just a brief, not very well written, quick summary of what I see. Also throw in the evangelical element- less about pro life but more about the perception of believers will receive blessings of wealth.
