Really I’m happy to help if I can. And I know how much you value my analysis and snark -all while overlooking the expected typos. I think this article as on a lower scale because I was using a work computer to draft it versus a personal device

You always, always enlighten us! I don't know about the lower scale, it's a whole lot! I just hope you know how much we appreciate you and all the time and attention you give to share your knowledge, expertise and always the facts. You're the Best!

When discussing #TraitorTrump, the word "unprecedented comes up a lot & not in a good way. Your piece has sparked off a related line of thought in my head Filey. I'd be interested to know what the official procedures are when a POTUS leaves office. Who is in charge of packing up the West Wing offices & the Oval? Who is responsible for packing up the residence & the POTUS's office in the residence? Who is responsible for making sure that all presidential & staff papers are collected & cataloged for NARA? Because I'm thinking those procedures need to change drastically now that we've had an "unprecedented" criminal traitor defile the office of POTUS. That fucker never should have been ALLOWED to take so much as a paper clip out of the White House when he left. And don't even piss me off with that "I need it for my presidential library" crap, Donnie! Everything should go to NARA for review first. Do we need some sort of legislation that requires an office in the West Wing for a NARA employee to oversee the presidential records & ensure their safety? I don't know what the answer is here. This stuff is way above my paygrade. I just know that this can NEVER be allowed to happen again!

Really and I mean really excellent questions.

Generally speaking the Chief Usher (CU)of the White House is essentially tasked as the project manager & the buck stops with this office when ushering out the former president and ushering in the newly inaugurated president

https://www.whitehousehistory.org/the-white-house-chief-usher

Typically the CU and their staff liaise with the GSA and other Government Agencies (like DOD etc) for the logistics of moving in/out of personal items. But much of this is covered by the Presidential Transition Act

- also see 3 U.S.C. §102 https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=29+USC&f=treesort&num=82

-also see Presidential Transition Enhancement Act of 2019 Public Law 116-121 (codified in March 2020)

https://www.congress.gov/116/plaws/publ121/PLAW-116publ121.pdf

But generally speaking packing up of a former President’s personal belongings is typically delegated with the respective Chief of Staffs (POTUS & FLOTUS) I’m not saying Donald or Melanie (👈🏻😂see what I did there) packed up their stuff, most likely it was a lowly staffer or aide.

The Presidential Records Act (PRA) of 1978, 44 U.S.C. ß2201-2209 —this covers the outgoing President’s papers with the NARA being the official custodian of the papers. Notwithstanding this NARA link will take you to the various laws, CFRs and other Agency guidance

https://www.archives.gov/about/laws#presrec

Sorry if I just dumped a massive file on you but as you know I want my readers to have unrestricted access to various public documents. I hope my response was informative

Thanks for this reply. I'll check out some of these links tomorrow. No disrespect to the CU, but I really think this must change. The only marginally good thing #TraitorTrump has done for us is expose all the loopholes in procedures that can be exploited by anybody with zero morals or integrity & criminal intent. I hope going forward that NARA can be more closely involved with the process of packing up the old POTUS before the new one arrives. Also, how about a team from the appropriate security agency to inspect EVERY. SINGLE. SO-CALLED PERSONAL. BOX before it's sealed & loaded onto a moving van? #TraitorTrump is mentally six years old. Everything he touches if he doesn't personally destroy it is "MINE!" It's sad that we have to do things this way, but I do think we have to. This situation can NEVER happen again!

I think that's outside their purview. Their remit is investigating 1/6/21 & anything related. #TraitorTrump stealing classified docs is a separate crime. But SOMEBODY damned straight should make some recommendations to better protect our classified docs!

Correct on all counts

They will make recommendations for Congress to address J6 shortcomings, so "exit interviews," NARA and CU should be covered in them.

Just finished looking at the links. Lots of interesting information there. The info about the Chief Usher was especially interesting to me history geek that I am. I have to say though, I hope when #TraitorTrump becomes a convicted criminal, he loses all the perks of being a FPOTUS. I'm thinking he should as noted in section 4 of article II of the Constitution as explained in the reg. This never bothered me before with other POTUSs. But the thought of US tax dollars funding travel, security, an office & staff for FPOTUS makes my blood boil. The GSA regs need tweaking too. Remember Emily Murphy? She was head of the GSA under #TraitorTrump. She aided & abetted his grift. Check out this article from Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/zacheverson/2021/09/28/gsa-administrator-who-protected-trump-lands-new-gig-as-executive-coach/ & what it says about her never auditing FPOTUSs hotel, etc. She's also the recalcitrant idiot who refused to release transition funds to the Biden administration after he won the election. Again, aiding & abetting #TraitorTrump in his stolen election lies. GSA needs explicit regs that say when funds are released & under what very specific conditions they can be withheld. It should not be at the discretion of the dept. head, who in this case was evidently a Trump loyalist. Okay, now that I've vented all my Irish angst, I'm off to enjoy my Sunday. Have a great day Filey!!

My understanding is she made an appearance before the Grand Jury in late June/ or early July. I think Emily should be held responsible for her nonsensical “ascertainment” malarkey

REALLY?? Wonder what she had to say to the GJ? And yes to accountability. These hucksters should not be able to go merrily about their lives after nearly derailing our democracy.

Love the analysis and also the salt water therapy/ music combined. It honestly is such a treat to hear the water as there is nothing quite so relaxing. Have a stellar weekend after your busy week. We appreciate you immensely as your analysis is quite insightful. Makes me wish I had a law degree- or a spicey job. Or at least be a fly in the room when you are in your work element.

Love how you spot Venus-- you probably need a telescope next!

yeah, keep it up. You are a lifeline. I also appreciate your candor (is that the correct word?) I am so tired today- in sharing your journey through trauma. And you have had your share of it this year- car accident, surgery etc

While feelings can be very similar, they are just also so unique and your commentary gives so much perspective on how everyone and everyone's response can be so different. It helps to strengthen our understanding, tolerance, acceptance- so many things. Esp w/ you who is always snarky and quick and tough and smart as a whip. I just appreciate the fact that you can share your emotional journey.

I also think that when you are swamped virtually with so much to do in life, it is hard to understand how the human psyche can move into such a dark place. I literally wouldn't be able to even find the time to remain dark.

Anyway enuf of that.

I will give you my middle of the night wake up crazy twitter influenced theory (how twitter can push your mind to develop crazy theories). Recall how so many keep talking about Ivana and the casket and the image of struggling with it. Maybe some boxes were stored or suggested to be stored at her place and she was going to blow the whistle or refused. I came up with that during a sleepless night. I would never share that-crazy as it is- but given what we have witness in 6 plus years, nothing is crazy anymore.

Lastly, thouroughly enjoy each and every ocean and music setting. From one who moves all day between work, chores and more work, I rarely stop to notice the world about me.

and second lastly, what happened to your occasional post of food in the kitchen! Did we give up the cooking? I used to love to hear what you had planned for the fam. Allhough I know you have plenty to do........

Hi Filey, I hope you and yours are doing well.

A quick question - You've got your ears to the ground and pick up all kinds of "asides"... Are folks counting on true justice being done in TFG's case, or are they balancing whatever threatening behavior he may have on releasing classified info if he's indicted?

Apologies for the delayed response. I genuinely don’t know. Part of me thinks that the DOJ, based on an impartial AND thorough investigation;

-if the evidence and what we’ve seen thus far) unequivocally points to Trump violated the Espionage Act then absolutely Trump should be indicted

>Rule of Law something something <

And FTR I think Trump’s PRA argument is fatally flawed. Largely because that’s not the whole issue. I continue to believe the DOJ was correct in using the Espionage act 👈🏻Remember that talks about “classified documents” as a whole and does NOT aggregate to the levels of classification.

If Trump were to release the highly classified information especially if it pertains to our Sources and/or methods —then we can talk about treason versus sedition or espionage. The more details we learn my “theory” from last month is inching towards the unanswered question: “what triggered” the DOJ again this is speculation on my end but I’ve played out the scenarios a dozen times and with each new drip (aka leaking) it keeps bringing me back to 👇🏻
