The Department of Justice Released a “snapshot” of the sprawling Investigation into the deadly January 6th Insurrection.
Jan 6, 2021 by the numbers
In the late evening of July 6, 2021 (I think the email hit my inbox at 10:02PM) 1the Department of Justice published the:
Attorney General Merrick B. Garland this afternoon met with U.S. Capitol Police officers who defended the Capitol on January 6th, and with Department of Justice employees who have worked tirelessly to hold accountable those who attacked the Capitol six months ago today.
Mitch & GOP Senators blocked the bill that would have awarded the US Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police with the medals
- which is a travesty - these brave men and women put their bodies in between the violet mob and lawmakers. This is something that truly makes me upset. Because the US Capitol Police are losing officers almost everyday, at last count I believe some 75 officers have resigned in the wake of January 6th. They deserve better than what Congressional Republicans are doing. It’s obscenely disrespectful to these officers.
The DOJ-OPA Announcement which reads in part:
Based on the public court documents, below is a snapshot of the investigation as of Tuesday, July 6 . Complete versions of the public court documents used to compile these statistics are available on the Capitol Breach Investigation Resource Page at https://www.justice.gov/usaodc/capitol-breach-cases
The Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General recognized the important work and recent milestones in this investigation, including the arrest of more than 535 defendants in almost all 50 states. The Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General encouraged the team to continue to follow the facts in this case and charge what the evidence supports to hold all January 6th perpetrators accountable.
535 defendants, yes 535 defendants
https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/capitol-breach-cases,
The Department of Justice in concert with the FBI, ATF, DHS-HSI and other law enforcement agencies have lodged
to date, over 535 defendants have been arrested
Defendants are from nearly all 50 states (defendants charged in both District and Superior Court - remember Washington DC a defendant can be charged in Federal or DC Superior Court).
an average of three arrest per day since January 6th
Criminal charges Assault on Law Enforcement:
165 defendants have been charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees. Note the aggregate number and enhancement of “a deadly or dangerous weapon”
over 50 individuals who have been charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer.
At least 140 police officers were assaulted January 6th at the Capitol including about 80 U.S. Capitol Police and about 60 from the Metropolitan Police Department.
Assault on members of the Media
The DOJ recently disclosed that approximately six individuals have been arrested on a series of charges that relate to assaulting a member of the media, or destroying their equipment, on January 6th
Almost 495 defendants have been charged with entering or remaining in a restricted federal building or grounds.
Over 55 defendants have been charged with entering/remaining in a restricted area with a dangerous or deadly weapon.
Over 35 defendants have been charged with destruction of government property
Almost 30 defendants have been charged with theft of government property.
Nearly 235 defendants have been charged with corruptly obstructing, influencing, or impeding an official proceeding, or attempting to do so.
Proud Boys Oath Keepers & III%ers
Approximately 40 defendants have been charged with conspiracy, either: (a) conspiracy to obstruct a congressional proceeding, (b) conspiracy to obstruct law enforcement during a civil disorder, (c) conspiracy to injure an officer, or (d) some combination of the three.
I am genuinely shocked that not a single “Army of God” defendant which is weird because they were tagging along with John Sullivan. I did a thread on what I colloquially called “paratroopers” the Army of God were dressed in winter like camouflage and had single flow gas masks on - I remember grabbing a video that depicted at least six…
Ten Plea Agreements
I am actually surprised that the DOJ disclosure of approximately “ten individuals have pleaded guilty to a variety of federal charges, from misdemeanors to felony obstruction, many of whom will face incarceration at sentencing”
Oddly I had expected that number to be in the high double digits. But the spectrum of plea agreements from misdemeanor to felony is kind of par for course.

Summary
535 defendants (and counting) now take a moment and imagine, if you will; how many search warrants. How many affidavits. How many subpoenas and/or preservation request served. How many face to face interviews.
Then just imagine the massive Terabytes of data, video, audio, emails, financial transactions, encrypted chat apps, CCTV (from the Capitol and Hotels). And then contemplate how much geofencing data Federal Law Enforcement agents are combing through just to isolate each defendant and their mobile phone, data from all the social media companies, e-Mail providers. With all of that in mind - now realize that the DOJ’s Capitol Violence investigation is occurring simultaneously as they are still investigating and prosecuting criminals, as they normally do.
To those who continue to demand Attorney General Garland hold a daily press conference - while attacking and smearing him - get a gripe.
To those who are demanding that the <insert agency name> should recall all of our deployed human assets because according to some “Game over…Trump is done…just release the secret intelligence reports on Trump’ —for real get a grip
But the escalating attacks and smears against our own DOJ and Attorney General —says a lot about this crew’s true character and motive. The bottom line is -the facts are out there, you just need to know where and what to look for. But it’s also not lost on me that some of this crew provides very little research of their own. Yet they portend to be the foremost expert and none of them actually have a j-o-b beyond grifting.

I tend to laugh at myself because yes at 10:02PM DC local time I received an email notification
Yes, so much evidence gathering and case building takes a ton of time. As long as it is highlighted and not swept under the carpet as GOP would like to do-and we get to the leadership in the insurrection, this will be time well spent. I do think time dulls the senses in many though--
You're absolutely right. It takes time, and I cannot imagine how much possible evidence the department of justice must look through. It's unfair for us to expect results in a New York minute. The department of justice has done so much already. 500+ arrests are quite impressive. Thanks for sharing this and reminding us of the enormous task our DOJ has in front of them.🇺🇸⚖️
