I absolutely agree with you. Just because Pence did his constitutional duty once does not make him the saint he thinks he is. None of them are. They're just saving their rotten hides.
When indictments do happen ( being optimistic), I wonder how many will stick due to pocket pardons.
One day out of Pence’s entire self-serving career sure does not make him a hero. We certainly have a low bar set if just doing your job makes you a hero.
On a side note today is the 50th anniversary of the Watergate burglars arrest. If Nixon had been held accountable we would not be going through today’s hellacious mess.
I guess the silver lining is due to Trump’s malfeasance and maladministration Congress has their work cut out for them. I expect in the coming months:
1) amendments to the electoral count act FTR Rick Hasen is a preeminent expert and it’s almost one year to the date and I would recommend reading this👇🏻
2) Tightening up the language of John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021
3) Clearing the ambiguity of the 12th Amendment
4) Amending the FVRA <—Trump took advantage of the “acting”
and hopefully the FPA which grants millions like tens of millions in funding for a president post presidency…these are only the items off the top of my head. I’m presently eyeballs deep in the Congregational Records but I rue the day that President Ford pardoned Nixon. Had he not pardoned Nixon I am confident Nixon would have been indicted and then we would have binding legal precedent(s) but if the DOJ pivots to declination —fair warning any grace I’ve given to the DOJ and AG Garland —sadly all bets are off.
Agreed. I cannot help but think Garland is a long term sucker play by McConnell. Softball pitch to President Obama about “nominating someone like Garland”; Obama does it; Moscow Mitch refuses a hearing figures the next Dem president “owes” something to Garland and here we are. Perhaps I’m just too cynical after watching our politics for all these years.
